Financial independence is a sloth’s best friend.

It’s so easy to justify working too much and not enjoying life by saying things like, well, someone’s gotta pay the bills. And while this is true, generally speaking, if you are living your whole life just to pay the bills it may be time to reevaluate your approach to life in general.

There are a lot of great resources out there for how to manage your money, and a lot of the services are free. And some of them aren’t even services, exactly, but sites like Mr. Money Mustache which will simply explain to you (over and over, if need be) why you should be saving more money and why you should absolutely not be living paycheck to paycheck. That doesn’t mean being filthy rich, mind you, or doing morally questionable things to make money. It means managing your money in a way that makes you happiest both now and in the future.

It’s really really hard to chill out when you’re not sure if you can pay the rent. And while sometimes there are emergencies and things happen and money is tight, for most of us we could be way more comfortable in our finances if we just paid attention and decided to make better financial decisions. Maybe it’s time you took a step or two towards financial independence.
